Honda Accord Overview
The Honda Accord is a series of mid-size and full-size compacts, manufactured from Honda since 1976, and it is being sold in a majority throughout the world.
In 1982, the Honda Accord became the first Japanese car to be produced in the U.S. and it achieved considerable fame and success everywhere. Honda Accord is the best-selling Japanese car for fifteen years with around ten million vehicles sold.
Honda Accord has been offered in several different car body styles and versions and after many road tests, safety checks it has been chosen as one of the best cars.
First Generation (1976-1981)
The first generation Honda Accord was introduced in 1976 with power of 68 hp, 2,380.0 mm wheelbase, and a weight of about 2,000 pounds. The Accord had a great fuel economy. It was featured with AM/FM radio, cloth seats, intermittent wipers, and a tachometer as standard equipment. In 1978 air conditioning, a digital clock, and power steering was included in Honda Accord. In 1979, Honda Accord?s power went to 72 hp. In 1981, SE model was added to the Accord series for the first time, with power windows and novio-leather seats. The Accord?s Japanese competitors were Toyota Corona, Nissan Stanza, Mazda Capella, and the Mitsubishi Galant.
Second Generation (1982-1985)
The second generation Honda Accord was launched in 1982. In U.S. it became the best-selling Japanese nameplate and did hold that position for about 15 years.
This Accord?s interior, exterior was redesigned and fuel economy was also increased but mechanically, it was very similar to the first generation as it used 75 hp (56 kW), 1,751 cc (1.751 L; 106.9 cu in) EK1 CVCC engine. This Honda Accord had improved quality control and included some popular features of the time such as shag carpet, velour cabin trim and chrome accents. European Accords included additional rear fog lights embedded into the rear bumper and headlamp spray washers while Japanese Accords included adjustable ride height control and side view mirrors installed on the mid-forward fenders.
In 1983, Honda Accord upgraded the automatic transmission to a four speed.

Third Generation (1986-1989)
The third generation Accord was introduced in Japan in 1985. It had a very striking exterior design and one notable feature was the flip-up headlights. Honda Accord Europe models were featured fixed headlights and a slightly different taillight cluster design.
The third generation Accord had double-wishbones at both the front and rear ends and MacPherson strut system which provided better stability and sharper handling. Its brakes were small 4-wheel discs with twin-piston calipers and wheels were either 13-inch steel wheels with hubcaps or 14-inch alloy wheels.
Accord was available with a full power package, heated mirrors, a digital instrument cluster, sun roof, cruise control, and climate control.
The Accord’s available engines were A18A, B18A, B20A A16A1, A20A2, A20A4, B20A2, B20A8, A20A1 and A20A3.
Forth Generation (1989-1993)
The 4th generation Honda Accord was unveiled in 1989. This Accord featured optic reflectors with completely clear lenses on the headlamps replacing the more conventional lens diffused lighting.
For this fourth generation Accord, Honda made significant engineering design improvements. It had all aluminum 2.2 liter 16-valve electronic fuel injected engine. All Accords of this generation were equipped with automatic transmissions.
Fourth generation EXi Accords (which were sold in Australia) offered the same 4-wheel steering technology as was available optionally on the U.S.
A 125 horsepower was offered for DX and LX models. Some new dealer-installed accessories 6-disc CD changer, stereo equalizer, fog lights, security system, rear wing spoiler, trunk lip spoiler, luggage rack, full and half nose mask, center armrest, window visors, sunroof visor, car cover, and a cockpit cover.

Fifth Generation (1992-1997)
The fifth generation of Honda Accord was launched with 2 distinct versions. One version for the European market (launched in 1992) and one for the North American market was launched. The North American Accord model grew in width but shrunk in length, leaving it classified as a mid-size car in North America.
The engines offered also exceeded the maximum limit of 2000 cc. This Honda Accord had four different size engines 1.8, 2.0, 2.2 VTEC and 2.2 DOHC VTEC. The Japanese-spec Accord models were marketed as the following: EF, EX, 2.0EX, 2.0EXL, 2.2VTE.
Sixth Generation
The sixth generation Honda accord was split into three separate models for Japanese North American and European markets. The Honda Accord wagon was discontinued in North America while the coupe was discontinued in Japan.
The Japanese models became narrower to the favorable “size 5″ tax bracket, except for Euro R and wagon, which were classified as size 3.
Seventh Generation (2003-2007)
The seventh generation of the Accord was launched in 2002and consists of two separate models. Its both models were sold in many markets, fueled by the popular Cog advertisement for the Accord.
Eighth Generation (2008-PRESENT)
The Eighth generation of Honda Accord for the Japanese and European markets was launched in 2008. It is also sold as the Accord Euro in the Australia and New Zealand markets. The North American version of the Accord remains a larger and different styled car. Engine is 2.4 Liter 4-cylinder and produces Hp of 177 bhp (132 kW) with torque of 161 lb?ft (218 N?m).A coupe version is available, as well as a Crosstour fastback model, which was introduced in the US for the 2010 model year.
